I was born in Scotland, grew up in NYC, and although I was raised in the US, many influences
came from the old world. The cultural differences between Europe and the US have shaped my
personality.
Now that I live in Arizona, all sorts of cultural influences are inspiring me.
Although I'd say my roots were in folk art, I've always been enamored of the Dutch Masters.
I had taken a course in sixteenth century oil glazed painting at a local art guild in New Jersey
and fell in love all over again with Dutch art.
I tried to stay as true as possible to the most commonly used oil colors and various glazing
formulas of the day. Since many of those formulas used toxic materials, today's mixes are far
less hazardous.
In the past I've experimented with mixed media assemblage, artist trading cards, and encaustic
painting, but these days I focus on two main forms: oils and charcoal drawings. In keeping with
that I chose to only feature my favorite pieces in two galleries in this website. At some point
I may expand it to other areas.
My work has been lucky enough to have found its way into many countries throughout the world.
Recently my work has been shown at the Phoenix Art Museum.
